ArH Internship Week 3: The Wandering Monk

20170124_111723Sorry this is a little late. This particular day was the day where I discovered that I got accepted into the art conservation program in Florence Italy (If you would like to help support me you can do so on my Patreon and GoFundMe) so I was a little shell-shocked pretty much all week.

So, back on topic: The Tale of the Wandering Monk is a series of  Meji period Japanese stories with accompanying prints.

The stories were written by Izumi Kyoka, a romanticist writer. The prints were made by Setsuko Ideta. These prints were originally paintings that were converted into woodblocks.

The binding was interesting because it was bound in the Western style from left to right whereas the traditional Japanese binding would have been done right to left.
