Coffee and Art: Birds

Topic: Worry gets you Nowhere

Okay, so yesterday’s blog post was a bit of a down note, and I think this next little piece is the perfect upbeat note to follow that.

First of all, after going through a couple months (yes, months) of… not feeling like Ashley, I’m starting to feel like my old, determined, happy self again. I actually managed to get up at 5 two days in a row. I even made myself a little calendar with sparkly stickers. It’s surprisingly a lot more rewarding than I thought.

I originally got these stickers for a 6-9 year old drawing workshop I held. The kids LOVED them. Turns out they motivate adults too. ^_^

Now, here’s my obligatory picture of my drawing with my coffee.

I didn’t have a lot of thoughts while I was drawing these birds. I actually came at a blank when it came to what I was going to draw, then I saw this bit of advice: When you don’t know what to draw in your sketchbook, just start by putting on color.

So, I got my watercolors, and painted a few blue splotches. And of course, since I’m the Gold Artist, I painted a line of gold acrylic paint. The color inspired me to draw bluebirds.

I love bluebirds! They’re so cute and look like they’re wearing little orange vests!

After I drew a few bluebirds, I was reminded of my favorite bible verse.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.”

Matthew 6: 25-27
Today… even this very moment… is tough enough. What’s the point of worrying about tomorrow?

This is an incredibly important verse to me because, like all people my age, I’m a very anxious person. I need to remind myself to not worry about things outside my control, or things in my control that I can’t tend to at the very moment. It’s important to enjoy anything when you’re worrying about things that don’t matter. In my experience, even when things go horribly wrong…

I’m always fine.

I always survive,

and I always have people who love me. Everything always turns out okay in the end.
